Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur called for track changes to be made overnight at the Mexico City Grand Prix, arguing that some of the bumps are "almost dangerous" at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
Despite an afternoon of mixed fortunes for the Scuderia, with Charles Leclerc topping both FP1 and FP2 and Lewis Hamilton's SF-26 grinding to a halt in the second hour of running, Vasseur was more concerned with the condition of the circuit.
He highlighted how some of the bumps proved treacherous, and advocated remedial work before FP3, which is not uncommon in F1.
Issues with track surfaces do crop up, and venues are usually receptive to making changes and quick to implement them.
Reflecting on the opening two sessions of the weekend, Vasseur was keen to downplay the pace seen from Leclerc, dismissing the idea that the Italian team should carry any confidence into the second day of running.
"I don't have to be confident or not. We have to work. We have to try to get the best for [FP3 and qualifying]," Vasseur said after FP2. "Conditions are mega extreme. That we knew before with the altitude; it's a challenge.
"It's a challenge for us, but also for the others. It means that we have a lot of work to do... and it's mega bumpy."
Expanding on that last remark, the Ferrari boss pinpointed the most concerning part of the track, where he would most like to see action taken before FP3, after numerous cars were seen bottoming out over the bump heading into the first corner.
"Probably a bit too much before Turn 1," the Frenchman added. "It's almost dangerous. We will have to do something [before FP3].
"But overall, I think that it was a good start to the weekend, but still a long way to go."
