Max Verstappen has dismissed speculation that this could be his last season in F1 if he fails to have the fun he is seeking following the major regulations overhaul.
As a four-time F1 champion, Verstappen made his feelings clear about the sport's move to a 50-50 split in power between electric and combustion, pointedly describing it as "Formula E on steroids", and "anti-racing".
Notably, Verstappen hinted last week that he could move on and pursue his racing ambitions elsewhere. He could compete in this year's Nürburgring 24 Hours, citing the fact he will be able to "drive flat out", a situation he will not encounter in Formula 1 this year due to the battery management requirements.
Last week, Verstappen notably stated: "When you've already won and achieved everything, then it [driving in F1] doesn't really have to happen anymore.
"There are lots of other fun things you can do, of course, and that's what I'm definitely going to do. Maybe already this year and in the years to come. This [the regulations change] certainly doesn't help to keep going for a very long time."
Verstappen, who has three years remaining on his Red Bull contract, has now clarified his position and what his future may hold.
Asked whether he would continue after this year, Verstappen said: "Then everything must turn out to be very negative, but there is no question of that. I will just continue."
Speaking to the media, including RacingNews365, Verstappen added: "If I don't like something, it doesn't mean I don't want to do it.
"As a purist, as a motorsport enthusiast, I would have preferred it to be different. But I also know I have to make do with this. I can't adjust it now. That's why I always try to get the most out of it.
"I also find it super fun to work with everyone and with our own car. Those are all nice things. Would I have preferred it to be different, in terms of regulations? Yes, I do. I also know that this is it, so you have to make do with that."
