Marko issues further de Vries warning

After previously stating that Nyck de Vries was on a yellow card thanks to his sub-par performances, Helmut Marko has reiterated his dissatisfaction with the Dutchman's season so far.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has once again criticised Nyck de Vries' performances so far in 2023, saying the Dutchman has not lived up to expectations.

Making his F1 race debut at Monza last year as a last-minute replacement for Alex Albon at Williams, de Vries put in an assured drive to finish ninth and collect two championship points.

The Dutchman was on the radar of several teams after his star turn, and duly signed for AlphaTauri for 2023, replacing the Alpine-bound Pierre Gasly.

But de Vries has found the going tough so far this season, in which he has made several unforced errors and been comprehensively overshadowed by teammate Yuki Tsunoda.

Earlier this month, Marko stated that de Vries was on a "yellow card", adding that Red Bull juniors such as Liam Lawson and Ayumu Iwasa may be in line to replace the Dutchman mid-season if his performances do not improve.

Ahead of this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix, Marko doubled down on those comments.

“To date, [de Vries] has not lived up to the expectations placed in him,” the Austrian said in an exclusive interview.

“Of course, we talked about it openly with him and now there are routes that he knows.

“So let's see how he develops and then we will discuss further and possibly decide.”
