The Madring F1 circuit has shared an update on the construction of the track ahead of its September debut later this year.
The 5.4 km circuit is set to become the new host of the Spanish Grand Prix, having signed a long-term deal with F1 in 2024.
It is currently scheduled to host the 14th round of the campaign and bump up Spain's presence on the F1 calendar, joining the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Last weekend, RacingNews365 visited the Madring, which is still under significant construction.
In a fresh update, the track has been given a public update as it announced the paving of 'La Monumental' - the longest banked corner on the calendar.
In its official description of the corner, the Madring has detailed that it is “550 metres in length and shaped as a semicircle”, while also featuring “an extreme 24% banking”.
Drivers are set to spend approximately six seconds rounding the corner, which has a maximum height of 10 metres.
Detailing the process of constructing the corner, the Madring outlined: “The paving of the first base layer of Turn 12 has been one of the most demanding technical tasks of the entire project.
“Due to its geometry and steep banking, it is the most complex area of the circuit to execute, requiring millimetre-level precision.
“To guarantee such accuracy, two state-of-the-art pavers were used working in perfect synchrony — an uncommon operational setup that ensured continuity and uniformity in the asphalt across a layout of this nature.
“The dimensions of Turn 12 required more than 1,800 cubic metres of asphalt mix, equivalent to covering the entire grass pitch of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium with a 25-centimetre layer.”
The processes do not stop at the banked corner, however, as the circuit outlined the “paving of the remaining layout in the Valdebebas area will be carried out over the course of this week and next, with the intermediate asphalt layer scheduled for April.”
It also detailed that the structures of the team garages and pit building are “progressing steadily”.
