Liam Lawson shares F1 hope after surprise discovery

Liam Lawson is hopeful F1 drivers can now continually push flat out in races after revealing a surprise energy demand through race weekends.

Changes were introduced in Miami to soothe some of the concerns raised in the first three rounds of the season, including the ability for cars to now super-clip up to the full 350kw charge of the battery, with the overall energy able to be harvested now capped at 7 MJ from 8 MJ.

Further changes are planned for 2027, including a look at the 50-50 split in terms of power output from the ICE and batteries, as Racing Bulls' Lawson explained how teams were having to adapt on the fly through weekends to the ever-changing track conditions - and the demands this places on set energy deployment.

"The car setup is important, and it will always be, but there is so much lap time in getting the energy management correct on each track," Lawson told media, including RacingNews365.

"As the season goes on and we make changes, hopefully that is reduced, and we can be in a position to be flat out and not have that sort, but right now, it is a very big part of our focus. 

"Through the weekend, as the track gets faster and faster, we start carrying more speeds through corners, and we're using more energy. 

"So P1 to qualifying can be quite a lot of evolution, and what we thought we were going to be doing with energy management changes during the weekend."
