Liam Lawson has responded to wild online rumours that he was set to participate in Australian Supercars during F1's summer break.
With no grands prix taking place for five weeks between Japan on March 29th and Miami on May 3rd, owing to the cancellations of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia owing to the ongoing Iran War, some drivers have opted to race elsewhere to stay race-fit.
Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll have enjoyed GT3 racing, whilst both Mercedes and McLaren drivers have had one day each in their 2026 during Pirelli tyre testing at the Nurburgring.
Lewis Hamilton completed a two-day wet-weather test for Pirelli at Fiorano, whilst Franco Colapinto has also been in the Alpine for a filming day, with Ferrari also planning a filming day of its own at Monza next week.
However, during the break, speculation emerged from Australia and New Zealand that Racing Bulls driver Lawson was set to sample Australian Supercars machinery with rounds taking place across the weekend of April 10th-11th and again from April 17th-19th.
But the New Zealander was quick to shut this down when asked if it was ever a possibility.
"No, I landed in New Zealand, and my phone was lighting up with: 'Oh Liam, you're racing supercars next week," Lawson told media, including RacingNews365.
"I was like: 'I don't even know that I'm racing supercars next week', so I don't really know how everybody seemed to know that I was racing supercars.
"But it is a very cool idea, it is obviously a series that I've grown up watching, and I would love to do it at some point, for sure.
"Obviously, when my life is not so focused on one thing, maybe I can actually put the time in to prepare for it, and it would be cool, but there's no real truth to [me racing in supercars]."
