Liam Lawson does not know how F1's new technical regulation tweaks will play out after revealing drivers made a concession in their discussions with the FIA.

For the Miami Grand Prix, a host of rule tweaks have been implemented to arrest concerns which arose across the first three grands prix of the season.

Chief among them is a reduction of overall energy available to be recaptured to 7MJ from 8MJ in a bid to cut super-clipping and lift and coast, with super-clipping now permitted to 350KW - the full capacity of the battery - up from the previous 250kw limit.

Offering his perspective on the changes, Racing Bulls' driver Lawson felt the truth about the new rules would only become apparent once cars were out on-track, as he conceded that the drivers could not "turn everything upside down" during their talks with the FIA.

"It is hard to know until we drive on track, and so we've done simulations, and driven the simulator, so hopefully it is a step in the right direction," Lawson told media, including RacingNews365.

"But honestly, until we drive on track, I don't really know.

"In some ways, it has been useful to have these few weeks to talk about [the rules] and really go into detail about stuff which we were not super happy about.

"It is nice that we are being heard, and the stuff that we're complaining about, or reporting and feeding back on, it is hard to make changes.

"Obviously, it is quite difficult, and it is not like we can just turn everything upside down, so from us, there is an understanding that we can't totally fix everything, but the fact that we're making steps is very useful."
