Red Bull detail additional benefit to Max Verstappen extension

Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies has detailed an additional benefit to the extension of Max Verstappen's contract with the team.

The four-time world champion committed his long-term future to Red Bull earlier this year, signing an extension that will keep him at Milton Keynes until the end of 2030.

Red Bull has seen notable personnel departures in recent seasons, with key figures moving on to rival outfits.

However, Mekies believes Verstappen's presence now serves as a powerful magnet, one that could attract top engineering and technical talent to the organisation.

"It's massively important," Mekies told media including RacingNews365. "You know the good guys, and at the end of the day, you are only interested in the good guys and girls.

"The good guys, they have the choice and I'm talking about our people, and I'm talking about the people in other teams, they have the choice because they are very, very good at what they do.

"And as much as Max had to choose which team to commit to, they have the choice to commit left or right, and we are all united by only one thing, we want to win.

"And when you're able to say that the fastest driver in the world is with us, it's a massive stability element. It's a massive ambition element."

Red Bull has endured a difficult start to the 2026 campaign, but Mekies stressed the team remains singularly focused on returning to the front of the grid.

"Then everybody understands that everything else that you set up is only with that single objective, to win,” he said. “So it's a very big element.

"We must not use that as an excuse. So it's a very big plus. We need to work on everything else to make sure that we keep developing and attracting all the talents."
