Liam Lawson has delivered Racing Bulls a clear message that is must "keep pushing the limits", following a very positive opening day in Montreal.
The New Zealander enjoyed an excellent first day of the Canadian Grand Prix and ended it 10th on the timesheets, directly behind Max Verstappen and directly ahead of Isack Hadjar.
It was one of Lawson's strongest opening days to a grand prix this season, and one of the rare occasions where he has been faster than Hadjar.
The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a real driver favourite and a venue Lawson has always wanted to visit, adding to the enjoyment of first and second practice.
However, he has recognised that himself and the Faenza-based outfit must keep unlocking pace, due to the tightness of the midfield.
"I think it's positive, it's close, as usual at the moment," said Lawson, assessing his opening day performance. "I think, personally, it's been a fun day. It's a cool track.
"It's been a place I've wanted to come to for a long time. So, yeah, I enjoyed it. Just very, very close. We need to keep pushing the limits and finding every bit of speed we can."
Based on his strong Friday, Lawson is keen to push on Saturday to make an appearance in Q3, something he believes is possible.
For it to be possible in Montreal, though, he has noted the importance of maintaining a strong car balance.
"The car has been very, very strong recently," added Lawson. "So as long as we keep chasing the balance through the weekend, like we are, then, yeah, I think it's possible, but let's see tomorrow."
