Lewis Hamilton reveals 'light dimming' Ferrari worry

Lewis Hamilton believes the "light" at the end of the tunnel is "getting dimmer" for Ferrari as its title hopes fade in 2026.

After the Spanish Grand Prix, where Hamilton retired with a brakes failure, he fell 101 points behind championship leader Kimi Antonelli, who also holds eight grand prix wins to Hamilton's one. 

The Briton has not scored a podium since third at the British Grand Prix as Ferrari's early and mid-season title optimism has faded, with the team 52 points ahead of McLaren in third, as Mercedes close in on a ninth constructors' title. 

Hamilton has overseen a number of changes at Ferrari as the team pushes to end its long title drought, but for 2026, he has now conceded that the title light is now beginning to fade.

"There's light at the end of the tunnel, but it's getting dimmer the further we get through [the season]," Hamilton told media, including RacingNews365.

"The team's doing an amazing job in bringing upgrades and pushing us forward; I'm so proud of the work, I say it all the time, but it's because I really am.

"Like I couldn't do what I do without seeing the great work they got to put in, and I feel like I have to. 

"I always want to make sure that I acknowledge them and recognise them for that because I want them to continue to push, and I want them to stay with me and keep that passion and fire.

"But also, at the track, we need to be correct and act accordingly to make sure we get the result complete at the same time."

Is Hamilton getting Ferrari ready?

As the 2026 title hopes fade, attention at Maranello will turn to the 2027 season, Hamilton's 21st in grand prix racing. 

It is a season which will mark 20 years since the team's last drivers' title, through Kimi Raikkonen, but is the work Hamilton is doing now, enough to make Ferrari title challengers next season?
