Lewis Hamilton has demanded the FIA make changes to its penalty processes after a series of controversial incidents in the Mexico City GP.

At Turn 1 of the race, both Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc cut across the grass and gained positions whilst Hamilton, who stuck to the track, lost out.

Neither of those two drivers were punished - with Verstappen surviving a second incident with Hamilton at Turn 2, where he cut across the grass, and by the letter of the law, should have ceded the position back to the Ferrari to negate any "lasting advantage."

However, as the pair then approached Turn 4, Hamilton was forced to take to the grass run-off himself, and then copped a 10-second time penalty for gaining a lasting advantage as he was two seconds clear of Verstappen after cutting across the grass.

This ultimately cost Hamilton a shot at a first podium for the Scuderia, coming home eighth, having started in third and looked able to keep the position through pure pace.

Reflecting, Hamilton felt that some of the penalty decision-making process needed to be less 'secretive' as it was having a critical effect on the careers and championship hopes for some drivers.

"Not particularly, there isn't any clarity," Hamilton told media, including RacingNews365 , when asked if he had received clarity from the FIA.

"I think that's probably part of the big issue of transparency and accountability, and also the secrecy of decisions made in the background.

"It is something which definitely needs to be tackled and done in the background.

"But I don't know if they're aware of the way that their decisions can ultimately steer careers, and can decide the results for the championship, as you've seen in the past.

"So some work needs to be done there."
