Jos Verstappen has not ruled out the prospect of his son Max leaving Red Bull in the near future.
The 2024 season marked another successful campaign for Verstappen as he secured his fourth F1 drivers' title.
However, he was faced with an increased challenge as Red Bull slipped back in the pecking order and ended the campaign third in the constructors' championship, behind McLaren and Ferrari.
It is now facing a tough task to beat the competition in 2025, according to Jos, when the field is projected to be even closer.
“Red Bull must build a car that is no longer so difficult to drive,” Verstappen Senior told Münchner Merkur/tz.
“If you look at the second half of 2024, you can't be optimistic. Red Bull has a big task ahead of them in 2025.”
When Jos was asked if Verstappen's future remains open despite having a Red Bull contract until the end of 2028, he replied: “Anything is possible. He can stay at Red Bull if he sees the point.
“His goal is to win races. If he feels that this is no longer possible at Red Bull, a switch is not out of the question.”
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff publicly pursued Verstappen earlier this year when a power struggle emerged between the Thai and Austrian owners at Red Bull.
Verstappen has also been linked with a move to Aston Martin going forward after renowned car designer Adrian Newey signed for the project.
