Jos Verstappen and co-driver Renaud Jamoul sealed the Belgian rally championship on Saturday, on what was an unforgettable day for the Verstappen family.
Driving a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 car, Verstappen and Jamoul finished third in their class in the East Belgian Rally, a good enough result to clinch the title with one final round still remaining.
It marks a major accomplishment for the former F1 driver, who made the switch to rallying a few years ago.
Jos, the father of four-time world champion Max, was delighted to win the title given it was the goal himself and Jamoul set for themselves.
"We're definitely happy with it!" said Verstappen. "This wasn't the most interesting rally for us, because we made the safe tyre choices.
"At the end, we did have the right tyres on the car and things went a bit better, but we really took it easy on the last stage. We wanted to win the championship, because that was the most important thing today."
September 27th will be remembered as an unforgettable day for the Verstappen family, as while Jos was sealing the Belgian rally title, Max was claiming a debut GT3 victory at the Nordschleife.
For Jos, huge strides have been made in rallying, something which has been made possible by getting the right people around him.
"You always try to be as well-prepared as possible at the start with the right people on the team," added Verstappen. "My co-driver, Renaud, is obviously crucial in that process.
"We've got that all figured out. I love being at the front of the pack. The fun is important, and then the results come. We're so good now, that's also a pleasure, of course."
