Jack Doohan's father has Mick has scolded Alpine for its treatment of his son at the start of the 2025 season.
Doohan was called up to Alpine at the end of 2024 and made his debut with the squad at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The Australian was retained for the start of the following campaign but his future was under great uncertainty in the build-up to the year after Alpine signed Franco Colapinto as a reserve driver.
Just six rounds into the campaign, Alpine announced a driver swap, and Doohan was demoted to a reserve role before leaving the team at the start of 2026.
Reflecting on the situation, Mick Doohan told Marca: "I really can't comment on that, but I think it was unfair.
“It was from the start. They replaced a driver before the season even began. And, basically, that was it.
“My son had a long-term contract; he was Alpine's first junior driver to arrive. It was clear, for reasons I can't say, that a different direction was taken.
“And that's all there is to it. Look, Jack is a strong young man, and his plan is... He's racing now, in Barcelona [at European Le Mans], with a race car.”
Shortly after his separation from Alpine, Haas announced it had obtained the services of the 23-year-old.
Mick insisted his son is not giving up on pursuing a full-time return to F1, all while aiming one final dig at Alpine.
“He's with Haas F1 now, as a reserve driver, looking to secure a seat and with a team that's more committed to contracts,” he said.
