Hamilton opens up on life after F1: I don't ever want to be a negative ex-driver

Seven-time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton has offered insights into his personal targets when he has retired from the sport.

Lewis Hamilton has shared his thoughts on his aims for the future, and how he would like to see himself as an ex-F1 driver. The Mercedes driver is participating in his 16th season in F1 and, at 37 years old, is the second-oldest driver on the grid, behind Fernando Alonso (41). With drivers very rarely racing in F1 beyond the age of 40, Hamilton is unlikely to remain in the sport for many more years. When asked about his post-retirement passions, Hamilton reassured that he would still keep a vested interest in F1, and that he didn't want to be a "negative" retired driver. "I'll always be tapped into this sport, I'll always be watching," confirmed Hamilton in an interview with former teammate Heikki Kovalainen on ViaPlay . "I'll always want to be someone that's being positive to whichever drivers that are here, good or bad, because you know how difficult it is to start, and how it can suck and how days can be good and how people can be negative about you. "I don't ever want to be one of those drivers that does that, because we've experienced that."

Hamilton sees involvement in "lots of projects"

Over the last few years, Hamilton has been increasingly involved with a number of passions, projects and business ventures. As well as being involved in the fashion industry, Hamilton has music interests, and has helped launch charities and foundations. The Briton has also opened a vegan burger restaurant, launched an Extreme E racing series team X44, and was recently revealed as a member of the group who bought American football team Denver Broncos. Hamilton was asked about where his passions will lie when he retires from F1. "I think I've really tried to utilise this time when I'm outside [of F1]; I hold a lot of Zoom calls with people from different genres just to be educated – I ask a lot of questions," added Hamilton. "The last one was with a specialist who started a solar panel company in Silicon Valley, just to see how he went about it, what his goals are, and just realising that there are a lot of amazing people out there who have really great intentions, and are really trying to help improve life for people and help save the planet for the future. "I'm working on a lot of different projects. I have a really big team now that I've been building over the last five years, my own personal life team that's working with me to really help me bring the ideas and things that I'm passionate about to life. So we have a lot of projects. "I think a lot of people say they're entrepreneurs. I think I'm genuinely an entrepreneur, because I have a lot of these business things going. I think afterwards, I'll be able to zone in on one or more of those."
