Hamilton: I gave it everything but Red Bull had the upper hand

Despite applying pressure in the closing stages of the race, Lewis Hamilton was unable to catch Max Verstappen for the lead of the United States Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton admits he gave everything he could to try to catch Max Verstappen in the United States Grand Prix. A tense battle between the title rivals unfolded during the latter stages of the race, with Mercedes driver Hamilton chasing down the Red Bull for the lead. But the Dutchman was able to hold on in the final laps and claimed victory by 1.333 seconds. Hamilton feels that Verstappen's team were ultimately the stronger party during the weekend at Circuit of the Americas. "Congratulations to Max, he did a great job today," Hamilton said. "It was such a tough race. I got a good start, gave it absolutely everything, but at the end of the day they [Red Bull] just had the upper hand this weekend, and we couldn't really ask for more. "A big, big thank you to my team for great pit-stops, great, hard work throughout the weekend, and what an amazing crowd. To perform in front of you guys is such an honour." Despite losing out on the victory, Hamilton enjoyed racing in Austin. "I think this is definitely our acceptance into the US," the seven-time World Champion added. "What a place to be. "It's a real honour to be out here, I hope we get more races out here. I hope that this will continue to grow because you can tell just how great the fans are out here, so I hope we get to come out more." Following the race, Hamilton is now 12 points behind Verstappen in the World Championship standings.
