George Russell has conceded to being "lucky" as the British GP finished behind a safety car, allowing him to secure his first podium at Silverstone - and trim Kimi Antonelli's championship lead.
Russell suffered a mid-race slow puncture, requiring a second pit-stop, which dropped him out of the fight for third place.
But he was able to recover in the closing stages and moved himself into the runner-up spot.
This was brought about by a safety car under which second-placed Lewis Hamilton pitted, but Russell did not.
It promoted him to second and secured an 18-point haul, thus reducing Kimi Antonelli's points lead to 25 after a wheel shield failure and five-second time penalty for track limits dumped him out of the points.
"It is my first podium, so really pleased to be standing here," Russell said.
"It was obviously unlucky to get the puncture, and then I got very lucky at the end with the safety car, I was glad.”
Having been placed in a vulnerable position with his tyres by not pitting under the safety car, Russell admitted he was relieved that the race did not restart.
"It would have been great for the fans for it to have restarted, but from my side, the tyres were so cold, so I was kind of glad to just bring it home in second,” he added.
“A tough weekend, but overall glad to be standing there."
