George Russell has highlighted that his Singapore GP victory is a redemption of the “missed opportunity” he suffered at the location two years ago.
Russell was chasing a race victory around the Marina Bay Circuit in 2023 before he crashed out on the final lap.
The Briton bagged pole position on Saturday before converting it into a race win, going unchallenged during the 62-lap race.
It marked Russell's second victory of the season and one that left him reminiscing on his error from two seasons ago.
“It feels amazing, especially after what happened a couple of years ago,” Russell said after the race.
“That was a bit of a missed opportunity, but we more than made up for it.
“Just so grateful for the team. They did an amazing job this whole weekend.
“We don't really know where this performance came from, but really happy.”
Despite the win, Russell is doubtful he will be in a position to consistently fight at the head of the field in the remaining races.
“If I was to make a list of all the races I thought we could win at this year, this would probably be right at the bottom,” he said.
“We need to sit down on Monday and Tuesday to sort of understand why the performance was so good. I hope we can carry this through to the rest of the season.
“But I think realistically, Lando looked incredibly fast. He was within a second of Max the whole race and around this circuit, that's not easy.
“We’ll take the performance for today and celebrate it. I won't think too much about Austin yet.”
