F1's governing body, the FIA, have shared an update on what might happen next after "detailed discussions" regarding the 2021 title decider were held during the latest meeting of the F1 Commission.
The FIA launched an investigation into last year's Abu Dhabi finale after a contentious late Safety Car period opened the door for Max Verstappen to pass Lewis Hamilton for the victory and the world title.
On Monday, the latest step was taken as the FIA and teams met for an F1 Commission meeting in London, where the matter was discussed further.
It had been anticipated that the FIA would communicate several proposed changes, ahead of ratification at next month's World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) meeting, but this did not materialise.
FIA to present structural changes and an action plan
Instead, in a brief note as part of a wider press release confirming other developments, the FIA stated that an "action plan" and "news of structural changes" will be presented by new President Mohammed Ben Sulayem in due course – following the latest input from teams.
"The FIA President led detailed discussions of the 2021 FIA Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix," read a statement from the FIA after Monday's meeting.
"Feedback from the Commission on matters raised will be incorporated into the President's analysis and he will publicly present news of structural changes and [an] action plan in the coming days."
All regulatory changes remain subject to approval by the WMSC, which will meet on the eve of the 2022 season in Bahrain on 18 March.
