The FIA has unveiled a significant partnership with Siemens Digital Industries Software, designating the German company as its official digital twin sponsor.

This alliance aims to significantly reduce the environmental footprint of race car design by leveraging Siemens’ Xcelerator software for virtual modelling, resulting in a reduction of the need for physical prototypes and wind tunnel testing.

Since 2022, the FIA has used Siemens’ technology to produce over 14,000 CAD parts and conduct 10,000 fluid dynamics simulations, underpinning regulations from Formula 1 to Formula 4.

This virtual-first focus aligns with the FIA’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2030.

The collaboration also integrates Siemens into the FIA’s Global Partnership Programme, a collective dedicated to enhancing motorsport safety and sustainability.

“We’re proud to partner with global technology leaders like Siemens to shape the future of motor sport,” said FIA chief commercial officer Craig Edmondson.

“This collaboration shows the strength of our wider partner network, where world-class brands are helping us deliver progress across performance, safety and sustainability.”

Jason Somerville, head of aerodynamics at the governing body, added: “Siemens gives us the precision tools to design and test complex aerodynamic concepts virtually, reducing environmental impact while improving performance and safety.

“This technology is key to ensuring that racing remains closer, fairer, and more competitive — all while supporting our ambition to reach net zero by 2030.”
