This Sunday's annual Formula E rookie test features one of, if not the strongest, line-ups of talent ever seen at the event, representing a significant shift towards genuine potential future drivers in the series.
For the past three years, the rookie test has been held at the Tempelhof Circuit in Berlin, but it has been moved to the Circuito del Jarama this time around, taking place a day after the inaugural Madrid E-Prix.
Formula E's rookie test has often featured a wide range of drivers in terms of age, ability, racing background and whether they realistically have a chance of securing a full-time seat in the series.
For what is the final rookie test of the Gen3 era, there is a clear and noticeable shift towards teams prioritising young talent with a genuine chance of a seat in the category.
This is evident across several outfits, with Citroën being a fine example, choosing to field 2023 F2 champion Theo Pourchaire and current F2 driver Joshua Dürksen, both signed by Mercedes F1 as development drivers.
Porsche has offered more track time to reigning DTM champion Ayhancan Güven, who it hopes will be able to compete for its new factory team next season, as well as 16-year-old Elia Weiss, a teenager in whom it has invested significant time.
The likes of F2's Kush Maini are back for another outing with Mahindra, alongside 18-year-old Théophile Naël, with the F3 driver set to get his first taste of the series.
Williams F1 development driver Victor Martins is back with Nissan for the rookie test, another driver with a genuine chance of a future spot in the championship, alongside Abbi Pulling, one of four female drivers taking part.
One of the most intriguing names in the rookie test line-up is F2 race winner Richard Verschoor at Lola, a Dutch talent who has never driven a Formula E car but has serious potential.
By far the most experienced driver is Daniil Kvyat, with the ex-Red Bull driver again set to drive for DS Penske and is comfortably the oldest in the line-up.
Alongside Citroën, Andretti also boasts one of the most intriguing pairings, having handed 17-year-old Audi F1 junior Freddie Slater his first Formula E test alongside 20-year-old Callum Voisin.
Voisin drove for Cupra Kiro in last year's rookie test and was hugely impressive, with the 20-year-old Porsche-affiliated driver very much one for the future.
Quite easily, at least six of the rookies in the test, could find themselves with a full-time seat in the next couple of years.
