Pierre Gasly feels 'robbed' after court decision strips Monaco podium

Pierre Gasly says he believes Alpine is being "robbed" following the FIA International Court of Appeal's decision to strip him of his Monaco podium.

On Friday, the FIA's ICA handed down its ruling over McLaren and Red Bull lodged a appeal against steward document 99 and decisions 1 and 2 from the Monaco GP, those which rescinded Gasly's two five-second time penalties for speeding in the pit-lane at the Monaco GP, which dropped him from third on the road to seventh.

Alpine had successfully overturned those penalties on a right of review after it was found the official timekeeper had made a mistake in measuring the length of the pit-lane, something the Monaco race stewards were not aware of when handing out the penalties to various drivers, including McLaren's Oscar Piastri and Gasly.

McLaren could not appeal Piastri's penalty as no mechanism exists in the rulebook to undo the effects of a served penalty, but Gasly did not serve his 10 seconds total penalty by stopping in the pits, with the time added to his elapsed race time, something drivers often opt to do.

After hearing the case last month, the FIA's ICA, the highest legal body it is possible to go to in FIA-sanctioned motorsport, decided to reinstate Gasly's two five-second time penalties, thus dropping him to seventh again with Isack Hadjar now third, Piastri fourth, Liam Lawson fifth, and Arvid Lindblad sixth.

Alpine had accepted the decision, before executive advisor Flavio Briatore launched an astonishing broadside attack against one of the judges on the panel and hinted that further action could be taken.

It is possible for Alpine to seek a right of review of the ICA's ruling, if evidence not available at the time of the hearing comes to light.

Reflecting on the ruling, Gasly felt Alpine was "being robbed" of its first podium since the 2024 Sao Paulo GP.

"I think we’re being robbed, and I don’t think it’s going to stop there. It was quite clear, the speed we had in the pit lane, and there are a lot of interpretations and legal battles being fought in offices over points that go beyond what happens in sport," Gasly told Canal+.

"And that is sad, to see results decided as a consequence of this kind of event.

"On track, we finished third. Then there was another twist afterwards.

"Anyway, I’ll let my team take care of the rest. I did everything I could on track, and now it’s up to them to do what’s necessary.

"I have confidence in that."
