Citroen officially joins Formula E as Maserati depart

Formula E has a brand-new team on the grid for the upcoming campaign, in the form of an iconic French manufacturer.

Citroen has officially joined Formula E ahead of the upcoming 2025/26 campaign, to replace Maserati.

After three seasons in the all-electric series, the Maserati brand has bowed out of the championship following a strategic decision by parent company, Stellantis.

Stellantis has chosen to replace Maserati with one of its other brands, Citroen, which will result in a major new-look to what has long been a Monaco-based team.

The outfit is expected to announce an entirely new driver pairing, with Stoffel Vandoorne and Jake Hughes both searching for seats elsewhere.

Nick Cassidy and Jean-Eric Vergne have been widely tipped as the duo's replacements, although an official announcement is yet to be made.

The arrival of Citroen will result in a brand-new livery on the grid for the final season of the Gen3 era, which gets underway in São Paulo on December 6.

Following the announcement of its arrival, Citroen said its move to Formula E provides a "new challenge" in "an electric, innovative and passionate adventure that embodies our values and our vision for the mobility of tomorrow."

The French manufacturer added: "Citroën is returning to motorsport, an arena that shaped its history and legend - motorsport in its most visionary form: an 100% electric, responsible and committed competition with popular races in the heart of cities, a young, committed, connected audience and a technological, international showcase for the future of mobility."

Citroen is no stranger to motorsport, but is best known for its success across the World Rally Championship and the Dakar Rally. It also enjoyed previous success in WTCC and the cross-country rally world cup.
