Charles Leclerc completed a perfect opening day at the United States Grand Prix by backing up his first practice pace by also topping the timesheets in second practice.
The Monegasque ended Friday quickest, but by just 0.042s over Kimi Antonelli, with Mercedes appearing to have finally unlocked performance from its recent upgrades.
Max Verstappen enjoyed another positive start to a grand prix weekend in third, within two-tenths of Leclerc, while Lewis Hamilton and George Russell completed the top five.
It was an eventful session for Russell, who was shown a black-and-white flag for forcing Leclerc off the circuit, while an investigation into the incident resulted in no further action.

How United States GP FP2 unfolded
Unlike in most second practice sessions, the majority of the grid was quick to leave the garage and hit the circuit, with Max Verstappen almost hitting Liam Lawson immediately after leaving the pit lane.
The Dutchman was in a hurry to get his race simulation underway, with the bulk of the field on medium tyres for their opening long run. Both Ferraris and McLarens were on hards.
It was a far-from-ideal start to second practice for Kimi Antonelli, who returned to the Mercedes garage early and jumped out of the car, with cockpit repairs required before he could rejoin the Circuit of the Americas 17 minutes into the session.
As for Antonelli's team-mate George Russell, he was shown a black-and-white flag for forcing Charles Leclerc off the circuit in a bizarre incident at Turn 18, while the Briton was also placed under investigation. Ultimately, no further action was taken.
With the entire grid eager to gather as much data as possible, the opening long runs ended 20 minutes into FP2. The track briefly went quiet before drivers emerged on new soft tyres for qualifying simulations.
Before the qualifying simulations began, it was Verstappen on medium tyres at the top of the timesheets, one-tenth clear of Russell and a further tenth clear of Antonelli in third. Lando Norris and Isack Hadjar completed the top five.
However, on soft tyres rather than hards, it was Leclerc who came alive and jumped to the top with a 1m 35.291s, almost two-tenths clear of Verstappen and six-tenths clear of Lewis Hamilton, who completed the top three after the first soft-tyre laps.
Antonelli soon slotted into second as FP2 hit the halfway mark, just four-hundredths adrift of Leclerc. The championship leader's lap brought the quick laps to an end, as attention once again returned to long runs for the final 25 minutes of the session.
With further long runs rounding off second practice, the timesheets remained unchanged, meaning Leclerc ended the day quickest, ahead of Antonelli, Verstappen, Hamilton and Russell. In a strong effort, Liam Lawson was sixth, ahead of both McLarens.
Crucially, tyre degradation was poor, creating a debate whether it could be a two-stop come Sunday's race.
