Cadillac F1 owner facing major lawsuit over fraud allegations

Mark Walter, owner of TWG Global and majority stakeholder in the Cadillac Formula 1 Team, is facing a proposed class-action lawsuit alleging fraudulent concealment, breach of contract, aiding and abetting fraud, and civil conspiracy, among other claims.

The suit, filed in the Southern District of Florida by law firm Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd on behalf of 67-year-old Miami resident Ira Rosner, centres on an annuity purchased through Delaware Life Insurance Company. Delaware Life, Group 1001, TWG Global, and Guggenheim Partners are all named as defendants alongside Walter.

According to USA Today, the complaint alleges that Walter and the named companies conducted a "systematic scheme to conceal and misrepresent the allocation of insurer assets in entities affiliated with or controlled by Walter." 

At the heart of the claim is the allegation that Group 1001, Walter's Indiana-based parent company, deliberately withheld grand jury subpoenas received by Delaware Life in February until a compulsory regulatory disclosure in June.

The lawsuit further alleges that only around 3% of Delaware Life's invested assets were disclosed as related-party investments, "when in truth the figure was more than 1,000% greater."

Walter's TWG Global has become an increasingly prominent force in motorsport through TWG Motorsports, the division behind the Cadillac Formula 1 Team. 

Cadillac entered F1 as the grid's 11th constructor in 2026 through a partnership between TWG Motorsports and General Motors, with Walter holding a majority stake.

The team is contesting its debut season with Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas as race drivers, Zhou Guanyu as reserve, and Colton Herta in a test role. 

Marcin Budkowski serves as team principal, overseeing day-to-day racing operations after taking over from Graeme Lowdon last month.

TWG Motorsports has publicly stated that the Cadillac F1 team is not for sale and that it has no intention of exiting its stake, despite speculation prompted by the legal and regulatory scrutiny surrounding Walter personally.
