Isack Hadjar triggered a red flag during first practice ahead of this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix with just under 25 minutes remaining, following a bizarre crash.
The Red Bull driver crashed at Turn 16 on the exit of the Swimming Pool section after hitting the barrier nose-first on corner exit.
It was a strange accident that saw Hadjar's car make initial contact with the barrier before sliding through the chicane and into the wall.
The impact spat his RB22 back across the track, triggering a red flag, with both the car and significant debris scattered across the circuit.
Hadjar immediately complained over the radio that the car had "snapped" and admitted he did not "understand" how the crash had happened.
Red Bull now faces a major repair job ahead of second practice, while Kimi Antonelli tops the timesheets.
