2026 F1 Spanish Grand Prix

Theft sparks police investigation at new Spanish GP F1 venue

The Madring in Madrid is gearing up to hosting its first Spanish Grand Prix later this month.

A police investigation has been launched following allegations of thieves stealing electrical wiring and cables from the new host venue of F1's Spanish Grand Prix.

The Madring in Madrid will host its first race over the weekend of September 11th-13th, after the Spanish Grand Prix moved from Barcelona for 2026.

With just two weeks to go before the race, reputable Spanish outlet ABC has reported that police are investigating the theft of around 300m of electrical cabling and wiring from the circuit, which is located in the IFEMA entertainment complex near Real Madrid's training complex and Barajas airport.

It is understood that the affected areas of the track came through a tunnel, which would indicate Turns 17 and 18 as the location of the theft, although back-up and contingency plans are in place.

FIA F3 recently held a test day at the venue ahead of its championship finale on the F1 support bill, with F1 cars having already run at the track, with Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc completing a filming day earlier this year.
