Baku track repairs made overnight after F1 drivers complain

Part of Turn 7 at the Baku City Circuit has been worked on and resurfaced overnight after F1 drivers voiced their dissatisfaction with the corner during their usual post-FP2 briefing.

That area of the track proved tricky to navigate during Thursday's running, after the upper layer became loose due to the heat experienced throughout the day. This prompted overnight remedial works.

The approach to Turn 7 was resurfaced ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and that patch is the location of the current problem.

According to the race director's notes before the event, sections of Turns 2, 3 and 4 were resurfaced too, as well as another patch at Turn 19.

During FP1, Arvid Lindblad had a moment at Turn 7, but managed to stop his Racing Bulls car before it hit the barriers at the exit of the corner.

Prior to that, Kimi Antonelli's session ended in the run-off area at the same corner, with a hydraulics issue curtailing his running.

The names of the drivers who voiced their concerns have not been disclosed.

Early on Friday morning ahead of FP3, it does not appear that other sections of the circuit have been worked on overnight.

The F2 Sprint Race proceeded without issue at Turn 7, but with temperatures low during the morning race, it remains to be seen if the repairs will be sufficient throughout the day.
