Aston Martin has paid homage to Adrian Newey upon him joining the F1 team, celebrating his now-unique way of working.

The 66-year-old officially starts work for the Silverstone Squad today, March 3, after his Red Bull gardening leave drew to a close.

Having announced he was leaving the Milton Keynes outfit last May, the legendary aerodynamicist and designer was confirmed to be headed to Aston Martin last summer.

On 26 F1 championships and counting, Newey is known to still use a drawing board, which is unusual in modern-day Formula 1.

In a world of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), the Briton's approach is a holdover from a bygone era, which Aston Martin commemorated in a social media post shared yesterday evening.

Newey has a considerable task on his hand with the British marque, not dissimilar to the situation he walked into at Red Bull 19 years ago.

Aston Martin has experienced significant growth and received a considered injection of investment in recent years, but is now at risk of becoming an under-performer and underachiever, if it cannot break free of the midfield - which is has increasingly slipped back into since a promising start to 2023.

Now, already on the eve of the 2025 season getting underway, Newey's focus will primarily be on the regulations overhaul being ushered in by F1 for the 2026 campaign and beyond which is a fresh start for all teams and Aston Martin's best opportunity to vault itself into race and championship-winning contention.
