Lance Stroll retired from his third consecutive grand prix this season.
In what has so far been a wretched campaign for Aston Martin, Stroll was informed over the radio during the Japanese GP to return to the garage due to a water pressure issue with the AMR26.
The team has confirmed it is "investigating" the problem.
The Canadian driver had at least managed to complete 30 of the 53 laps at Suzuka before being forced to pull out of another race as Aston Martin's miserable campaign continues.
Stroll was not classified in Australia, finishing 15 laps adrift due to an electrical problem that forced him back to the pits for a long spell, only to be sent back out before finally retiring.
The following week in China, Stroll managed just nine laps before retiring with a problem with the Honda battery, which has been the biggest issue for the team this year.
