There was a major shock on Day 1 of qualifying for the 2025 Le Mans 24 Hours as the #7 Toyota of Nyck de Vries, Mike Conway, and Kamui Kobayashi failed to make Hyperpole.
Driven by de Vries on Wednesday's first stage of qualifying, the car managed a best time of 0.385s slower than the 15th place it needed to make it through to Hyperpole, placing 17th overall.

It means the car featuring 2021 winners Conway and Kobayashi will start 17th, notwithstanding any penalties for other cars.
The sister #8 car, driven by Brendon Hartley on the day, was safely through in eighth place, as was the #38 Cadillac and #36 Alpine, with Jenson Button and Mick Schumacher, respectively as part of their crews. Button did not drive, instead handing over to Sebastien Bourdais, whereas Schumacher did for Alpine.
The times of those cars which made it through to Hyperpole in all three classes are now wiped heading to Hyperpole 1 tomorrow, akin to F1's qualifying procedure where times in Q1 are wiped once Q2 starts, which Hyperpole 1 effectively is.
The 15 remaining Hypercars, and 12 each from LMP2 and LMGT3 will now advance through to Hyperpole 1 on Thursday.
Akin to F1's Q2 session, Hyperpole 1 will trim the field further to 10, 8, and 8 cars, respectively, who go for class pole in Hyperpole 2.
The 10 remaining Hypercars will go for outright pole as well as class pole.
