Williams F1 junior Luke Browning secured his first F2 race win with victory in the Italian feature race, to climb to second in the standings.
A maximum haul of 25 points moves Browning up to 154 points, now just 20 behind championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli, who finished in fifth.
In a chaotic race, Red Bull junior Arvid Lindblad rammed McLaren protege Alex Dunne out of the race at the Ascari chicane early on, triggering a safety car, with another coming out soon after the restart after an out-of-control Lindblad rammed Roman Stanek, an innocent party out at Turn 1.
Dunne's own title hopes took a blow after his DNF, now finding himself 50 points behind Fornaroli, with three rounds remaining in the season in Azerbaijan, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi.
