Max Verstappen continued his blistering form from practice to take a sublime pole position for the Japanese Grand Prix.
F1's championship leader set a benchmark time of a 1:28.877 to finish 0. 581 seconds faster than McLaren's Oscar Piastri, who finished ahead of teammate Lando Norris.
Charles Leclerc will line up fourth for Ferrari if he escapes a penalty for failing to stay within the minimum lap time in Q1, with Sergio Perez fifth in the second Red Bull.
Sixth went to Carlos Sainz ahead of Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, whilst home favourite Yuki Tsunoda out-qualified Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso.
