Max Verstappen finished fastest in the only practice session ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix despite not using a set of Soft tyres.
The Red Bull driver finished 0.241secs faster than Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, who impressed in the Ferraris.
Lewis Hamilton was half a second down for Mercedes, just faster than Sergio Perez in the second Red Bull as the championship-leading team took a different strategic route through the opening hour of the weekend.
Lance Stroll was the lead Aston Martin in sixth ahead of Haas' Kevin Magnussen and teammate Fernando Alonso, whilst George Russell and Zhou Guanyu rounded out the top 10.
Drivers head straight into qualifying, with the Sprint format taking over Saturday's proceedings.
