George Russell kicked off the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend with the fastest time overall in Free Practice 1 at Yas Marina.
A 1:26.072 on the Soft C5 tyres was enough to earn top spot for the Mercedes driver, with Aston Martin's rookie driver Felipe Drugovich bagging second overall in the times, and fastest of the clutch of young drivers in the cars.
Both Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen missed the session, as Frederik Vesti and Jake Dennis took over the W14 and RB19, respectively as Mercedes and Red Bull fulfilled their remaining mandatory young driver slots.
