Yuki Tsunoda has hinted that he is set for a boost ahead of qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix, with "something to come" to his RB21.
Tsunoda ended the opening day at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in 15th on the timesheets and eight-tenths adrift of pacesetter George Russell, and three-tenths adrift of Max Verstappen.
However, it was confirmed by Red Bull chief engineer Paul Monaghan that Tsunoda had not received the same floor spec and upgrades as Verstappen, but that it hoped to introduce it to the second car over the weekend.
"We'll try to do it this weekend, but it's somewhat dependent on our ducks aligning, and if we can, of course, we will," Monaghan told select media, including RacingNews365. "This is in our interest to keep him on the best kit, it was just unfortunate circumstances."
Despite not having the same package as Verstappen on Friday in Montreal, Tsunoda felt comfortable in the car; however, he is eager to receive the upgrades.
"I think the feeling is, okay," said Tsunoda. "I know there's something to come in for [Saturday] which is good, that will give hopefully a bit of lap time there, free lap time.
"Other than that, yeah, I think it was good progress in terms of setup. Obviously, not enough in the end. So, yeah, definitely, let's find out and improve from [Saturday,"
Tsunoda has struggled to adjust to the second Red Bull seat but has slowly started to make progress, with him knowing that Q3 must be achieved.
"Yeah, I definitely have to be in Q3," noted Tsunoda. "That's the target. Let's see how it goes tomorrow.
"Like I said, there's something to come [on Saturday]. And, yeah, let's see how the [car] behaves with that."
