There has been a significant amount of talk over the immediate future of Mercedes' teenage sensation Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who is now eligible to compete in F1.
A change to the FIA's International Sporting Code means despite being 17 years old, Antonelli is allowed to race in F1.
The crucial update states: “The driver must be at least 18 years old at the start of the event of his first F1 competition. At the sole discretion of the FIA, a driver judged to have recently and consistently demonstrated outstanding ability and maturity in single-seater formula car competition may be granted a super licence at the age of 17 years old.”
Under the previous rule, Antonelli was unable to make an F1 debut due to his age. Super licence points were never an issue, with the new rule opening the door to him.
He is the favourite to replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes next season, but could Williams sign the Italian to replace Logan Sargeant for the remainder of 2024?
Do you think Antonelli will race in F1 this season?
