Haas are confident that the 2023 F1 season will be "easier" for the team as the sport moves into its second year of new technical regulations. A wave of updated rules were introduced for the 2022 campaign, resulting in the biggest changes to the cars for many years. For Haas, there was also the added factor of their relationship with Ferrari to consider; the American outfit buy as many non-listed parts, now known as Transferable Components, from the Scuderia as possible . Simone Resta, Technical Director at Haas, admits that 2022 was a "really challenging year" for the team, but acknowledges that the fact that they opted to focus on preparing for the new regulations early on in 2021 may have helped them to increase their competitiveness. "Maybe other people on the grid [had] been focussing a little bit more on 2021, so [everybody was] rebalancing resources in a different manner," Resta told RacingNews365.com in an exclusive interview. "But then, of course, in the long-run, you can see people are coming back strong again."
Resta: 2023 will be 'easier' for Haas
After the challenges of going into 2022, Resta believes that the forthcoming season will be a smoother one for Haas. "In absolute terms, for us it's going to be easier," he explained. "Because there are components you can carry over. It's not like everything is new as it was this year, where you were forced to do everything from scratch . "Wheel nuts, wings, hubs, etc. Now it's going to be easier and also, we are in a better place with the team, with the structure, everything is stable." At the beginning of 2021, Haas started the ground work for their 2022 by welcoming staff from engine partner Ferrari into the team. This was largely due to the cost cap kicking in, leading to the Scuderia needing to lay off staff to stay within the limits. Resta was part of the influx of engineers that joined at the start of the year in January, with the Italian describing how difficult it was for them to start from scratch for the new regulations. "When we joined, we really started from scratch. But it's all relative," Resta continued. "It [2023] will all depend on what the others can develop."
