Former F1 team boss Otmar Szafnauer has questioned the “ridiculous” outfits that Lewis Hamilton often wears to grand prix weekends.
However, Szafnauer acknowledged that the seven-time champion can “pull it off”.
Hamilton has long turned up at race events wearing clothing designers that differ substantially from his peers.
The 41-year-old has long talked about his appeal to fashion and has been involved in projects with various brands in recent years.
While in a discussion on the High Performance Racing podcast about which drivers arrive at the track first during a grand prix weekend, it was raised that successful figures such as Hamilton and Max Verstappen arrive early.
It then prompted Szafnauer to comment on the style of Hamilton, stating: “Lewis comes in when all the photographers are there, so he can wear the ridiculous clothing and take pictures.”
Szafnauer's co-host Jake Humphrey highlighted that he likes the clothing, stating that it is “out there”.
“Out there,” Sznafauer replied. “And that's not ridiculous?”
Following a further discussion, Szafnauer admitted that Hamilton can “pull it off”, adding that it may have helped sway his current partner.
“And I think the fashion helped with Kim Kardashian,” Szafnauer added.
