When and how Verstappen can win the 2022 F1 World Championship

After taking his third win in a row and 11 wins this season, it is now a matter of 'when' rather than 'if' Verstappen will become the 2022 F1 World Champion. These are the permutations.

Having amassed 335 points in the Formula 1 Drivers' Championship, Max Verstappen looks poised to take his second title with Red Bull and be officially crowned champion in December.

After a run of victories since the summer break now putting him on 11 wins out of 16 races, with six races to go he now has a 116-point lead over Charles Leclerc, 125 points over teammate Sergio Perez, and 132 points over George Russell.

Below is a look at the various permutations over the remaining Grand Prix's, looking at the points difference that he would have to finish each race with to end the title race.

Championship could be sealed in Singapore

Over the course of the next six races a driver can score a maximum of 164 points, which means it is possible for Verstappen to seal the championship at the next race in Singapore.

He must finish at least 138 points clear which would mean winning the race and taking the fastest lap, with Leclerc finishing 9th or lower, Perez finishing 4th or lower and Russell finishes 2nd or lower.

OR

Verstappen wins the race without fastest lap, if Leclerc finishes 9th (or lower) without fastest lap he will win the championship.

*In the event of a tie at the end of the year, the driver with the most victories wins the championship.
