What is straight mode in F1?
In 2026, F1 drivers will be able to access a new tool called 'straight mode' to assist them in grands prix, but what 'straight mode' and how exactly does it work in F1?
For the new season, the cars now feature 'active aerodynamics', where the front and rear wings move to shed drag and allow cars to attain higher top speeds.
Whilst the rear wing is DRS-style in that a slot-gap opens when a driver is in the dedicated 'straight mode' zones, the front wing flap elements drop down when the system is activated.
They are available to use for any driver when on track in the zones, and it is not required to be within one second of the car ahead, as was the case with DRS.
