What are the strategy options for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix?

Round seven of the F1 championship takes place from the famous Imola circuit in Italy.

The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix saw the debut of the new C6 tyre, which was used extensively during qualifying.

However, the soft compound is not expected to be seen during the grand prix as Pirelli has advised to use the other options.

The Italian marque has forecast a one-stop strategy as the best option to the chequered flag - a likely scenario, given the challenges of overtaking around the track.

Pirelli states starting on the medium compound is the best option with the pit window opening on lap 19 and running to lap 25.

Drivers would then switch to the hard tyre and run it to the end of the race. 

The alternative strategy, starting on the hard before switching to the medium between laps 38 and 44, is also an option to give the driver a tyre advantage late on.

An unlikely option, but one that could be explored by some teams, is a two stop strategy.

This would see the driver start on the medium compound and stopping between laps 12 and 18 for a set of hards.

A dash on the C4 compound would then be followed by another stint on the same tyre, fitted between laps 34 and 40.
