When the 2022 F1 season resumes after the summer break, several drivers will find themselves at risk of a penalty.

Under the sport's regulations, drivers can receive grid penalties when they exceed the limit of allocated engine parts per campaign. The amount given to each driver per season is as follows:

  • Internal Combustion Engine (ICE): max three
  • Turbo Charger (TC): max three
  • MGU-H: max three
  • MGU-K: max three
  • Energy Store (ES): max two
  • Control electronics (CE): max two
  • Exhaust (EX): max eight

This means that a driver can use the above amount of parts without punishment, but will be hit with a grid penalty should they go beyond the limit.

Previously used parts can be fitted again. For example, if a third ICE is installed in a driver's car, the first two can still be used.

Below are the numbers of parts used by each driver, updated to the Hungarian Grand Prix.
