Former Haas F1 team principal Guenther Steiner has spoken of his expectations for Yuki Tsunoda following his promotion to the Red bull team.

It was announced by the energy drink company on Thursday that Liam Lawson and Tsunoda would swap seats ahead of next weekend's Japanese Grand Prix – Tsunoda's home race.

The change has been made not because of Lawson's poor start to the season, but because Red Bull requires Tsunoda's experience to help fix the RB21.

Across the opening two rounds of the 2025 F1 season, Red Bull has encountered several problems with its car, to the extent that even Max Verstappen has complained of its lack of speed.

Due to the difficulty controlling the car and his inexperience, Lawson failed to escape the first part of qualifying in any format in both Australia and China.

Tsunoda, on the other hand, has enjoyed a strong start to the season, even if his results do not show it.

The 24-year-old has demonstrated excellent speed and race pace, although suffered a bizarre front wing failure in the Chinse Grand Prix.

When asked on the Red Flags podcast how he believes Tsunoda will perform at Red Bull, Steiner answered: "I think he will take it into Q3. I think Yuki, at the moment, is doing good.

"He's doing good. In my opinion, he's doing very good. Yuki was, in the beginning a little bit of a mess, to say the least, but now I think he's got his act together.

"He's quick, he's consistent, obviously, in the last race there was an issue. I think in Australia and in China, there was strategy issues.

"In China, the front wing broke. What can he do about that one?"
