Toto Wolff has asserted Mercedes must not become content with its position in the constructors' championship after rising to second in the standings.
Second and fourth in Brazil for Kimi Antonelli and George Russell respectively aided the Brackley-based squad's jump to the runner-up spot.
It was also aided by a non-scoring race for Ferrari as both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc failed to reach the chequered flag.
Mercedes now holds a 32-point lead over Red Bull in third place as it looks to hold onto the spot at the final three rounds of the year.
However, Wolff pointed to Ferrari's race in São Paulo as an example of how rapidly things can go downhill.
“You can see how quickly it goes,” he told media including RacingNews365.
“You have a weekend where you have a double DNF like [Ferrari] had and the other teams scoring strong enough points.
“The 30-point swing, you can have it in the other direction too in any of the three races.
“So, we just need to keep both feet on the ground, hopefully consolidate the gap and just take it day by day, weekend by weekend.”
The constructors' championship has already been won by McLaren, who sealed the title several races ago.
Russell asserted Mercedes' eyes are fixated on ensuring it beats Red Bull and Ferrari to the runner-up position in the standings.
“The minimum goal is to finish P2 in the championship,” Russell said.
“We could not have wished for much better [in Brazil] in that regard, especially considering the pace we had.”
