Nico Hulkenberg has matched an unwanted Formula 1 record following his outing at the Chinese Grand Prix.
The event marked Hulkenberg's 208th grand prix and in that time, the 36-year-old has not won a race.
Hulkenberg has now matched a long-standing record held by Andrea de Cesaris for the most grand prix started without taking a race victory.
De Cesaris' name has been at the top of the list for over 30 years but now has Hulkenberg for company.
Should Hulkenberg fail to win at the next round in Miami, a situation that is highly likely due to Haas' current pace, the German will move to the top of the leaderboard.
Most grand prix starts without a win
Driver | Grands Prix | Best result | |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Andrea De Cesaris | 208 | 2nd |
Nico Hulkenberg | 208 | 4th | |
3 | Nick Heidfeld | 183 | 2nd |
4 | Romain Grosjean | 179 | 2nd |
5 | Kevin Magnussen | 168 | 2nd |
6 | Martin Brundle | 158 | 2nd |
7 | Lance Stroll | 148 | 3rd |
8 | Derek Warwick | 146 | 2nd |
9 | Jean-Pierre Jarier | 134 | 3rd |
10 | Eddie Cheveer | 132 | 2nd |
As seen in the table above, Hulkenberg is the only driver inside the top 10 who has also not managed to finish on the podium during his career.
Hulkenberg has also held the unfortunate record of the most races without a podium finish, which he set in 2016.
The next active driver who has not yet claimed a podium finish is Yuki Tsunoda on 68 starts.
