Sergio Perez is set to test a 2023 Ferrari Formula 1 car, ahead of his comeback next season with Cadillac.

F1 will move to having 11 teams next year with the arrival of Cadillac, who are joining initially as a Ferrari customer outfit. Perez and Valtteri Bottas have joined the American squad on multi-year deals, to return to the grid in 2026.

While Cadillac will start life using Ferrari powertrains, it is hopeful of becoming its own power unit supplier by 2029 through its parent company, General Motors.

Ahead if its arrival, Cadillac is busy learning and preparing, to ensure it makes the best start possible.

To support its efforts, tests using an old Ferrari F1 car are set to take place, starting next month in Imola.

Perez has confirmed that a two-day test will take place in November, at the former home of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

"We will have some test sessions in November," Pérez said after a charity football match in Mexico City.

"Those will be very valuable because then we can work with the mechanics and engineers to get the whole team ready for the testing program that starts in January - very early in the year - where we will be at 100% right away."

Returning to an F1 cockpit will also offer Perez the opportunity to train muscles he cannot do without driving, to get himself in the right shape for his competitive return.

"It doesn't matter how often I train," added Perez. "I need time and miles in the car, because in the end it's very specific exercises and muscles that you train in the car.

"So I'm going to do two days of testing at Imola, which will help me tremendously. Our preparations are going well. I think it will happen in the Ferrari of 2023."
