Carlos Sainz will start from pole position for the third time in 2022 at the United States Grand Prix.

The Spaniard beat Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc by 0.065 seconds to secure P1, while Max Verstappen set the third fastest time.

However, the World Champion has been promoted to the front row after Leclerc was demoted due to an engine penalty, pushing the Monegasque down to P12.

Sergio Perez has been handed a five-place grid penalty for additional use of power unit elements, meaning that he slips from fourth to ninth.

As a result, the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will share the second row.

Elsewhere, Fernando Alonso and Zhou Guanyu have also incurred five-place grid drops for the same reason as Perez.

The starting grid below is provisional until confirmed by F1's governing body, the FIA.
