Results from Day 1 of Formula 1 winter testing in Bahrain

Max Verstappen finished the first day of testing atop the standings, while also completing the most laps. It stands in stark contrast to Mercedes who had their share of problems.

Max Verstappen and Red Bull have started the 2021 Formula 1 season in convincing fashion, finishing the first day of testing on Friday with the most laps completed and the fastest lap.

Mercedes had their issues as gearbox problems hampered Valtteri Bottas in the morning, though Lewis Hamilton helped stabilise things somewhat in the afternoon.
