Haas deny 'reality check' claim over 2026 F1 struggles

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu does not believe the new F1 regulations introduced this year served as a “reality check” for the midfield teams.

Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull have all stretched a healthy gap over the competition this year at the start of a new regulation cycle.

Midfield teams are mostly having to rely on misfortune for one of the top teams to break into the top eight at a grand prix weekend.

Haas, who has endured struggles of its own this year, informed select media including RacingNews365 that it simply does not have the resources in place to make a rapid turnaround.

But Komatsu insisted that there is more to finding performance than simply throwing money at the situation.

When asked if the regulation overhaul was a reality check for midfield teams, Komatsu told media including RacingNews365: “I don't think so.

“I don't think it's just a resource gap. It's too simplistic to say that. If you look at Racing Bulls, I don't think they started the year that strongly. 

“They were fine, but where they are now it's very, very impressive. Audi being the first year, being a full-grown manufacturer, yes, they got resources, but they're not the same as a top team. 

“But again, at least on the chassis side, the way they rolled out the car this year was impressive.

“Williams struggled this year compared to last year. It's not [just] about resources, I don't think.

“It's not as simple as that. But to be successful in F1, you've got to do everything right. You've got the right number of resources, finance backing, but the process has to be perfect.”
